Founding President Sam Nujoma handed over a donation of basic necessities and food parcels valued at a total of N$40,500 to the Office of the Prime Minister to be used in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Indeed, following the declared state of emergency by the Head of State and the subsequent lockdown of the whole country on account of the COVID-19 pandemic and now the gradual ease on the lockdown, we are aware that our government has established a multi-sectoral national coordination mechanism. The government has asked all stakeholders such as private health sector, the business community and individuals to contribute in terms of cash and in-kind support, to the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Dr Sam Nujoma heeded our government’s call and bought food parcels worth N$35,500 and masks to the value of N$5,000 which he managed to raise in his personal capacity.”

Receiving the donations on behalf of her office, Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila said this gesture is in keeping with what she knows about the founding president’s generous and concerned character.

“I remember when he retired as President of Namibia and Head of Swapo, he said even though he was retiring, he will always be ready to help where he can in Namibia’s future,” she said.
