The 25-kilometer road network project on Impalila Island is drawing to a close, marking a significant milestone in the Zambezi Region’s infrastructure development.
The Roads Authority Chief Executive Officer, Conrad Lutombi, confirmed that the road would be inaugurated soon, heralding a new era of economic development and accessibility for the island.
The road construction project, which employed over 135 locals, showcases innovative engineering with the construction of larger bridges to facilitate animal crossings, and the use of a low-volume seal standard to reduce maintenance costs.
The initiative is celebrated as a beacon of economic progress, expected to attract further investment to the region.
Parallel to the infrastructural developments on Impalila Island, Katima Mulilo, the Zambezi region’s capital, is buzzing with preparations for Namibia’s 34th Independence Day celebrations.
This year, the event takes on added significance as it marks the first time the Zambezi Region has been honoured to host the national festivities.
The theme, “A People United for Prosperity,” reflects the nation’s dedication to unity and progress, resonating deeply as Namibia commemorates 34 years of freedom.
The Katima Mulilo Sports Complex is the hub of activity, where the Independence Day event will unfold.
Under the guidance of Governor Lawrence Sampofu and the Local Preparatory Committee, meticulous plans are underway to ensure a seamless celebration.
The committee’s dedication, complemented by the National Preparatory Committee’s involvement, underscores the event’s national importance.
President Nangolo Mbumba is expected to deliver the keynote address, emphasizing the unity and resilience that have characterized Namibia’s journey since achieving independence.
Aundrin Mathe, the Executive Director of the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, extended an invitation to Namibians across the country to join the festivities, either in person or through live broadcasts on social media platforms and other traditional national broadcasting services.
The simultaneous completion of the Impalila Island Road project and the Independence Day celebrations symbolize a moment of pride, unity, and optimism for the future of Namibia.
