Standard Bank Namibia’s Chief Executive Officer Mercia Geises has resigned.

Confirming the resignation, Geises said she is resigning to pursue other interests.

“I just resigned to pursue other personal and professional interests nothing else,” said Geises.

Geises was appointed last year on 1 May after Vetumbuavi Mungunda stepped down in April 2021.

“In accordance with Paragraph 3.59 of the Listing Requirements, Shareholders are hereby advised that Mercia Geises has advised that, after seven years with the SBN Holdings Group she wishes to step down as Chief Executive and leave the Group to pursue other personal and professional interests,” said Herbert Maier, Chairman at SBN Holdings Limited and Chairman for Standard Bank Namibia Limted. Geises’ resignation takes effect on August 1, 2023, to give enough time for a smooth transition of duties and prevent any interruptions to daily operations and customer service.

Prior to her appointment as CEO, Geises served as Head of Personal and Business Banking at Standard Bank, for five years.

According to the bank, the Board will commence the process of appointing a successor to Geises and a further announcement will be made in due course.
