Namibia’s national rugby team head coach, Chrysander Botha, has stepped down from this position due to increasing job commitments that require his full attention.

Namibia Rugby Union (NRU) president, Petri Theron, confirmed the resignation on Tuesday.

He said the union respects Botha’s decision and thanked him for his dedication and contributions to Namibian rugby.

“In alignment with its high-performance strategy, NRU has acted swiftly to ensure continuity and effective preparations ahead of the upcoming Africa Cup by appointing Darryl de la Harpe as technical assistant to the national team,” said Theron.

“A former Namibian international with a wealth of rugby experience and insights, Mr de la Harpe brings significant value to the technical team. He will collaborate closely with the coaching staff to support team readiness and on-field performance,” he added.

Theron said the NRU remains committed to its long-term goals, including qualification for the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia.

“In his role as director of rugby, Jacques Burger has assumed leadership of the team of highly capable coaches tasked with preparing the national side for this critical qualification journey,” he said.

He assured that all plans and operations remain on track and that the union is focused on fielding a competitive and well-prepared team.

“We extend our best wishes to Mr Botha in his professional pursuits and warmly welcome Mr de la Harpe to his new role as we enter this crucial phase of preparations,” said Theron.
