Wild Dogs Football Club from Karibib were crowned champions of the Henties Bay Harambe Charity Cup over the weekend in Henties Bay.
The team walked away with N$15 000 in prize money, a new soccer kit, 20 gold medals, and a trophy.
The runners-up, Amatuks, also from Karibib, received N$8,000, a new soccer kit, and 20 silver medals.
Semifinalists Henties Bay United Football Club and Jomo Coastal Football Club from Swakopmund each received N$3 500.
Tournament organiser Alderman Skini said the event was a success, bringing teams and communities together through sport and charity.
He thanked all 16 teams that registered for the tournament and praised their spirit of unity and support.
“Unfortunately, the event was marred by a tragic incident involving a fatal accident between Spitzkoppe and Henties Bay, which claimed the life of a young and talented player. Our deepest condolences go out to the family, friends, and all those affected by this heartbreaking loss. Two teams from Usakos were unable to participate due to this unforeseen tragedy,” said Skini.
The tournament also included charitable activities. Organisers provided lunch to pensioners and people with disabilities in Arandis. Similar support will be extended to pensioners and people with disabilities in Henties Bay at the Golf Club this week.
“We express our heartfelt gratitude to all sponsors, volunteers, participants, and supporters who made this event possible. We remain committed to fostering community spirit and supporting those in need through future initiatives. Together, we stand united in memory of our fallen teammate and in hope for a better tomorrow,” said Skini.
