President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has reminded regional governors not to fail in implementing government plans, stating that the promises  made during the election campaign remain unchanged.

She was speaking on Wednesday at the induction workshop for regional governors of the eighth administration in Windhoek.

She said it is her responsibility to ensure that the government delivers on the commitments set out in the 2024 Swapo party manifesto and its implementation plan, which has been turned into the sixth National Development Plan.

The plan will be launched later this month.

“I am, therefore, accountable to the Namibian people, and you are the people to work with me in meeting the expectations of our people, which is nothing but quality service delivery, to bring about prosperity. That means you have now joined members of Cabinet and deputy ministers in carrying out these noble national responsibilities,” she said.

Nandi-Ndaitwah said she trusts the governors to help implement the government’s plans and urged them to work together with communities and stakeholders.

She said governors should engage regional councils, local authorities, traditional and church leaders, the business community, youth, and others in their regions.

She called for unity of purpose to achieve socioeconomic development and improve the lives of citzens.

“At this juncture, I call upon you to foster unity at every level within your regions. Do not allow division to take root. When our communities are united, our country is strengthened. I implore you to promote the spirit of ‘One Namibia, One Nation’ and to pursue unity of purpose. Only through unity can we effectively tackle and resolve the pressing challenges our communities face,” she said.

She told the governors the task ahead is serious and people expect results.

“The eyes of the nation are upon us as we confront poverty, youth unemployment, and a host of other pressing socioeconomic issues. I therefore call upon you to set a new standard for governance, one that exemplifies effective, inclusive governance and quality service delivery,” she said.
