The Swakopmund Municipality has reaffirmed its commitment to education through its annual School Donation Initiative, which has set aside N$200 000 for schools in 2025.
At a handover ceremony on Wednesday, Swakopmund deputy mayor Suamma Kautondokwa presented the first donation, marking the start of this year’s rollout.
Kautondokwa said the N$10 000 contribution reflects a shared commitment to ensuring that every child learns and grows in a safe, supportive, and inspiring environment. She emphasised that education is the foundation of a prosperous and sustainable community.
The initiative supports both public and private primary and secondary schools within the town.
“We recognise that both public and private schools play a vital role in shaping the educational landscape of Swakopmund,” Kautondokwa said.
She said the goal is to empower all schools fairly, reinforcing that “quality education should not be a privilege reserved for a few but a shared societal responsibility.”
Each school is eligible for a maximum of N$10 000 to buy textbooks, stationery, or educational tools, or to carry out small renovations that improve safety. Schools can also use the funds to support learners with special needs.
Kautondokwa said the initiative encourages shared responsibility, noting that schools must co-fund any projects that exceed the donation amount.
She reminded schools to submit all quotations to the municipality by 30 October 2025 to allow time for processing.
Reflecting on last year’s success, she expressed gratitude to the participating schools and highlighted the programme as an example of effective collaboration between local government and schools working toward a common goal.
