Local businesses, educators and policymakers are set to attend a workshop in Swakopmund next month to explore waste management and green economy solutions.

The event, which will take place on 5 November 2025, is organised by the international CircuWasteVETAfrica Project under the ERASMUS+ programme, co-funded by the European Commission (EU).

The workshop aims to raise awareness about sustainable waste management and promote circular economy practices that focus on reusing and recycling materials to reduce waste.

The CircuWasteVETAfrica Project seeks to build green skills in Africa through vocational training and capacity-building initiatives.

It brings together partners from Europe and Africa, united in promoting sustainable development.

European partners include AREA from Italy, Asociación Mundus from Spain, and Minimos Quadrados from Portugal.

They work alongside African partners, such as the Swakopmund Municipality, which is recognised for its waste management initiatives and collaboration with the private sector.

The event, according to Linda Mupupa, the public relations officer of the Swakopmund municipality, aims to enhance collaboration among key sectors.

“The event aims to raise awareness about circular waste management and promote green economy practices through vocational training and collaboration among schools, SMEs, policymakers and NGOs,” she said.

The workshop will also highlight the project’s ongoing work with local authorities and the development of a trainer’s programme to build local expertise.

The organisers say the event will help connect educational institutions, government, and industry to address local needs.

By identifying emerging market demands, the project aims to align vocational training with Namibia’s labour market and build a workforce equipped to support the country’s growing circular economy.
