Standard Bank upgrades digital lending

Standard Bank Namibia has upgraded its digital personal loan service as part of its push to expand responsible lending and improve financial access.

The enhanced platform allows clients to apply for and top up loans instantly through Internet Banking or Cellphone Banking by dialling 1402345#. No paperwork, branch visits, or internet access are required.

The bank said the improvements support national efforts to address financial exclusion, especially in rural and underserved areas.

Many Namibians still struggle to access basic financial services, a challenge the bank aims to reduce through digital innovation.

“Our enhanced Digital Lending platform is designed to empower clients with secure, transparent, and scalable financial tools that support long-term financial health,” said Burger Smit, head of digital and eCommerce at Standard Bank Namibia.

“This is responsible lending in action – ensuring that clients borrow within their means, with clear repayment structures and access to financial guidance.”

The bank stressed that its digital lending model differs from short-term microloan platforms. Instead of small loans with short repayment cycles, clients receive pre-approved offers based on their credit profiles. Loans are repaid through structured monthly instalments, and transactions are secured through encryption.

Key features of the upgraded platform include pre-approved offers displayed on internet banking dashboards, a top-up option for existing personal loans, no paperwork or queues, no data required for cellphone banking, secure One-Time Pin verification, and instant disbursement into current accounts.

“Standard Bank Namibia remains committed to championing growth and supporting national development through innovative, client-centric solutions that empower all Namibians, urban and rural alike,” Smit said.
