Regional growth driving housing market forward

Standard Bank Namibia has reaffirmed its commitment to growth, sustainability and expanding homeownership at the home loans grand finale.

The event recognised top-performing estate agents, developers, and consultants whose work has supported the country’s housing market.

Chief executive Erwin Tjipuka said the bank remains focused on driving growth and building communities.

“Namibia is our home, and at Standard Bank, we are committed to driving her growth. Financing homes is not just about bricks and mortar; it is about building communities, creating opportunities and shaping a future where every Namibian has a place to call home.”

He highlighted the Buy-a-Brick initiative, which raised N$2.5 million in 2024 and supported the construction of more than 60 homes for families who previously lived in informal settlements.

“Through Buy-a-Brick, we are not just building houses; we are building hope,” he said.

Head of personal and private banking Karen van der Merwe said operational improvements and strong partnerships have strengthened the bank’s performance.

She said the bank reduced repairs by 72%, improved turnaround times and introduced capacity models and attorney monitoring to increase efficiency.

“Together, we are not just financing homes; we are building trust, communities and Namibia’s future,” she said.

Head of home loans Randy Slabbert said Standard Bank recorded a 48% increase in participating estate agents, a 98% rise in deal volumes and a 75% increase in the value of new business.

“Results of this magnitude are only possible through partnerships and a shared focus on serving our customers efficiently,” he said.

The event’s prize-giving ceremony honoured top achievers. Okamita Properties won Developer of the Year 2025, Rightmove Properties took Estate Agency of the Year 2025, and Amunyela Helena was named Estate Agent of the Year 2025.

Mobile Home Loan Consultant of the Year went to Lebeus Hango, the Merit Award for Most Number of Deals went to Moses Amoolongo, and Shariffa Brussel won In-Branch Consultant of the Year 2025.

Slabbert said housing activity is growing across the regions, driven especially by northern Namibia’s estate agents and developers.

He said this expansion is stimulating local economies and shows that housing finance supports broader economic development by creating jobs and opportunities. He said partnerships are unlocking potential in communities outside Windhoek and strengthening the country’s economic base.

“With the right investment, the right partnerships and the right vision, Namibia can deliver solutions that benefit not only our nation but the global economy,” Tjipuka said.
