Mobile Telecommunications Company (MTC) plans to expand its operations locally and enter regional markets.

Its managing director, Licky Erastus, said the company has spent the past year engaging neighbouring countries that need its services.

He said MTC plans to set up a data centre and has invested heavily in its fibre backbone.

“We have a natural technology licence; we try to understand what the needs of customers are,” he said.

MTC, Namibia’s first and largest mobile telecommunications operator, has grown into a communications service provider and aims to fully transform into a digital service provider.

The company’s profit after tax for the year ended 30 September 2025 increased to N$1.02 billion from N$772.9 million in 2024.

Earnings per share rose to 136.37 cents, with headline earnings showing the same trend.

Total income grew 14.24% to N$3.71 billion, driven by strong demand for high-speed data and value-added mobile services.

Prepaid subscribers grew 4.3% after successful SIM registration campaigns, and prepaid ARPU increased 14.6%.

Improved postpaid offerings helped protect core revenue, and roaming income grew 2.5% due to more business travel and tourism.

Handset and accessory sales rose 16% as demand for smart devices picked up.

Operational performance improved, with EBITDA margins rising from 45.9% to 49.1% and nominal EBITDA increasing 22.3%.

Direct costs dropped 7.4% due to the removal of the previous year’s regulatory levy, while personnel costs rose 17.2% and administrative expenses grew 4.4% as the company expanded capacity and adjusted its structure.

Sales and marketing spending increased 21.9% to support the growth of MTC Maris, the company’s mobile financial services platform.

The investments strengthened distribution, added partners, and built a scalable system for digital expansion.

MTC enters the new financial year with a strategy aligned to ISBP 3.0.

It aims to meet rising demand for broadband, mobile financial services, and enterprise solutions. Key focus areas include 5G rollouts, fibre expansion, enterprise growth, cloud services, cybersecurity, IoT and cross-border digital products.

“MTC begins the year strengthened by the successful launch of 5G rollouts, accelerated fibre expansion, and solid momentum across enterprise, broadband, and digital services. The group will prioritise protecting and growing the core mobile business, ensuring its prepaid and postpaid offerings remain competitive, profitable, and aligned with the evolving needs of Namibian consumers,” MTC said.
