The Shore Runners Club was formed in March 2025 and is growing into a recognised running community along the coast. It brings together runners of different ages and abilities around health, fitness and a shared identity.
The club is the fourth formal running group in the coastal towns, following Walvis Bay Road Runners, Swakopmund Striders and BRG Running Club. Its formation followed a simple observation that many runners were active but lacked structure.
“Before the club’s formation, many runners were active on the streets but lacked a shared structure and identity,” said co-founder and chairman Sydney Nuwuseb.
“Shore Runners Club was created to unite these runners under one banner, offering a supportive and welcoming environment.”
Nuwuseb said the club has about 100 members, most of whom join to improve their health, fitness and lifestyle, using running to support both physical and mental well-being.
The club includes runners aged between 9 and 67. Its membership ranges from experienced endurance athletes to beginners and social runners, creating space for mentorship and shared learning.
This mix will be tested in 2026, with nine members set to compete in the Comrades Marathon and 14 taking part in the Two Oceans Marathon events.
A major focus for the club is the Rössing Marathon, which Nuwuseb said is regarded as Namibia’s leading road running event and a key annual target.
He said the club’s identity is rooted in its coastal setting, with its orange, white and black colours inspired by runners silhouetted against lagoon sunsets and surrounding dunes.
According to Nuwuseb, the colours represent warmth, unity and strength, reflecting both the environment and the runners.
The club also plans to strengthen its community role by hosting its own Club Fun Run in July 2026.
The event is intended to bring the wider public together and support the club’s aim of making running enjoyable, social and accessible to everyone.
