Grindrod Limited has reported a sharp rise in earnings for the year ended 31 December 2025, supported by once-off gains and improved performance in its core operations.
The JSE-listed company, which operates in Walvis Bay, expects earnings to range between N$2.044 billion and N$2.094 billion. This compares to N$314 million in the previous financial year.
Earnings per share are expected to be between 306.3 cents and 313.8 cents, up from 47.1 cents in the prior period.
The increase includes once-off net profits of N$902.8 million from foreign currency translation reserves.
These gains followed the acquisition of the remaining 35% stake in the Matola terminal joint venture and the exit from a marine fuel trading joint venture.
Headline earnings are forecast at between N$1.175 billion and N$1.225 billion, compared to N$312 million in the previous year.
Headline earnings per share are expected to range from 176.1 cents to 183.6 cents, up from 46.7 cents.
Excluding once-off items, headline earnings from core operations are projected at between N$1.153 billion and N$1.203 billion, compared to N$1.004 billion previously. Core headline earnings per share are expected to be between 172.8 cents and 180.3 cents, up from 150.4 cents.
Core operations include ports and terminals, logistics and group segments. The company said the Matola Terminal recorded a throughput of 9.9 million tonnes per annum, while the Maputo Port-operated terminal handled 15.2 million tonnes.
Grindrod said the expected difference of more than 20% from the previous reporting period required the release of a trading statement under JSE rules.
In October last year, Grindrod opened a new warehouse at the Port of Walvis Bay. The facility is located near berths 7 and 8 and allows cargo movement by conveyor, rail and road.
The warehouse covers 4 000 square metres and forms part of Grindrod’s 50 000 square metre premises. The company said the facility meets safety, health, environment and quality standards set by the Namibian Ports Authority (Namport).
Grindrod said the project strengthens cooperation with Namport and supports the efficiency of Walvis Bay as a trade gateway.
The company has operated in Walvis Bay for more than 50 years. It provides cargo handling, clearing and forwarding, container logistics, stevedoring, ship agency services and terminal operations.
