The municipality of Walvis Bay held a public meeting in Narraville as part of its 2026 engagement programme.

The meeting brought together council members, officials and residents.

It focused on service delivery issues and input for the 2026/2027 budget.

The council shared updates on waste management. Five refuse trucks are currently in use. Two more compactor trucks are expected in April.

An extra bin campaign has been introduced to support households that share bins. The municipality is also distributing 30 skip containers.

Plans are underway to procure two more skip trucks. Officials addressed water and sewer services.

They said ageing infrastructure remains a challenge. A three-year contract has been awarded to deal with sinkholes.

The town is also developing a 10 km pipeline connection to a desalination plant. The project aims to improve water supply.

Road maintenance was also discussed. The council said it is introducing a unit-rate contract to speed up repairs.

Three teams will focus on fixing potholes across all suburbs. Consultants are working on new stormwater systems to reduce damage during heavy rains.

Housing was another focus area. The council said it is working with the Shack Dwellers Federation to survey land.

This initiative is expected to support about 170 houses in Narraville. The Build Together Programme has also resumed. Fifteen houses are currently under construction. The municipality said it is improving internal systems to enhance efficiency and better serve the community. This includes a performance management system and updated job descriptions. The council said feedback from residents will be used in the final budget.
