The project manager at Monasa Advisory and Associates, Lineekela Hamutumwa, has urged young Namibian professionals to focus on skills that machines cannot replace.
Hamutumwa spoke at the recently concluded 15th Namibia Careers Expo.
She said project management plays an important role in career growth and development.
“Project management is the skill that quietly transforms employees into leaders,” she said.
She said the skill helps people plan, organise and complete tasks on time and within budget.
Hamutumwa said project management supports growth in three ways.
She said it develops leadership, builds human skills such as emotional intelligence and teamwork, and strengthens credibility through results.
“Delivering on a promise builds a personal brand of reliability. Trust is the currency of promotion,” she said.
She said project management remains important as artificial intelligence becomes more common.
“Project management is not just about managing tasks; it’s about managing people and outcomes,” she said. “It’s about leading teams, communicating effectively, and adapting to change – skills that are uniquely human.”
Hamutumwa encouraged students to gain practical experience.
She said this can be done through group work and coordinating tasks.
“The most important project anyone will ever manage is their own life,” she said. “Set goals, manage your time, and deliver results – that’s the path to success.”
She also encouraged young people to develop a growth mindset and learn from failure.
“Project management is not just about success; it’s about learning and growing,” she said.
Hamutumwa said the skills can be used in both personal and professional life.
She said Namibia has opportunities in sectors such as mining, renewable energy and infrastructure.
She said project management can support development in these areas.
“In a world of constant change, the ability to manage projects, lead teams, and deliver results is what will set you apart – not just as a professional, but as a leader of your own future.”
