The Association for Localised Interest (Asoli) plans to transition into a political party ahead of the 2029 elections.
The new party will be called the Assoli Progressives Party.
ASOLI president Josef Kauandenge said on Wednesday that the decision follows consultations with members across the country.
The transition follows the group’s participation in the 2025 local authorities elections in Windhoek and Swakopmund.
“Although we did not win any seats, we managed to outperform some long-established political parties. This demonstrates that, with time, we can grow into a significant political force ahead of the 2029 elections,” Kauandenge said.
He said the association has been in existence for five months and sees potential to grow, especially among young people.
He said the new party will focus on youth empowerment and community engagement.
“We have a constitutional right to form a political party. Registration with the Electoral Commission is primarily for election purposes, and we will soon submit the required documents to formalise our status,” he said.
He said Namibia’s democracy allows for new political parties.
“We thus have a right to form a political party and soon we will submit our documents with the Electoral Commission to register officially, with a view to participating in the upcoming elections in 2029, which will be a formality as we are already registered as an association,” Kauandenge said.
Asoli was formed in late 2025 and focuses on issues such as service delivery, youth unemployment and representation in local authorities.
The formation followed Kauandenge’s resignation from the National Unity Democratic Organisation (Nudo), where he served as secretary general.
He left the party after internal disagreements and said he wanted to build a platform focused on grassroots issues and youth participation.
Asoli said it will submit documents to register as a political party to the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN).
