The Namibian Scholars Investment Challenge has opened for registration, with trading set to begin on 5 May 2026.

Registration opened on 16 March and will close on 17 April.

The competition will run until 30 October, giving students six months to trade on a simulated platform.

Secondary school learners in Grades 10 to 12 and university students are invited to form teams of three to four members and take part.

Each team will receive N$500 000 in virtual capital to invest in shares listed on the Namibia Securities Exchange (NSX).

The aim is to grow the value of their portfolio by the end of the competition.

NSX chief executive officer Tiaan Bazuin said the challenge gives students practical exposure to investing.

“The NSIC is where the classroom meets the real stock market. It gives students the chance to test their ideas, compete with their peers, and learn how investing works, all in a fun and practical way. It’s about building confidence, teamwork, and smart money skills while discovering the excitement of the market.”

The competition will end with an awards ceremony where top teams will share N$80 000 in cash prizes.

RMB Namibia, Capricorn Group and IJG Securities are sponsoring the 2026 challenge.

RMB Namibia head of global markets Ian Erlank said the initiative supports financial education.

“At RMB Namibia, empowering young people with financial knowledge and real-world investment experience is essential to building Namibia’s future economy. The Namibian Scholars’ Investment Challenge provides a powerful platform for students to develop critical thinking, teamwork, and a deeper understanding of financial markets. We are proud to support an initiative that not only inspires the next generation of investors but also equips them with the confidence and skills to participate meaningfully in the economy.”

Capricorn Group chief brand and corporate affairs officer Marlize Horn said the programme builds financial skills early.

The Namibian Scholars’ Investment Challenge gives young people a practical, exciting way to understand how markets work, build confidence with money, and develop the discipline of long-term thinking. Capricorn Group is proud to support an initiative that equips Namibia’s future leaders with knowledge they can carry into their studies, careers and communities.”

IJG Group managing director Mark Späth said the challenge supports future investors.

“IJG Securities is honoured to once again support the NSIC as a sponsor. This competition is more than just an introduction to the NSX; it is a gateway for young minds to discover their potential and shape the future of Namibia’s capital markets. By inspiring curiosity, building knowledge, and nurturing ambition, the NSIC helps cultivate the next generation of financial leaders. IJG is excited to work with the NSX in investing in the talent that will drive tomorrow’s economy.”
