NSX climbs as materials sector leads

The Namibia Securities Exchange (NSX) recorded gains for the week of 23 to 27 March 2026, with the overall index rising by 2.76% to 2 127.37 points from 2 070.30 the previous week.

Despite the increase, the index remains 0.65% lower than its level in December 2025.

The local index declined by 0.10% to 817.63 points, although it is still 1.22% higher than its December level.

Basic materials led the gains, rising by 5.92% to 727.00 points. The sector is now 1.61% higher than at the end of 2025.

Consumer staples increased by 3.96% to 1 343.08 points and are up 1.83% since December.

Real estate rose by 1.28% to 2,426.60 points but remains down 10.15% for the year. Financials gained 0.76% to 699.37 points and are down 2.00% compared to December.

Consumer discretionary declined by 3.91% to 2 357.26 points and remains the weakest sector, down 12.14% since December.

Telecommunications and utilities showed no movement, closing at 302.23 points and 1 107.49 points.

On the regional front, the JSE All Share Index increased by 1.55% to 111 777.98 points but remains 3.50% lower than its December level.

The NSX recorded gains during the week, supported by basic materials and consumer staples, while weaker performance in consumer discretionary and real estate continues to weigh on the year-to-date outlook.
