A 20-year-old man is reported to have committed suicide this past weekend by shooting himself in the head with his cousin’s gun at Wanaheda in Windhoek.
According to the Namibian Police’s crime report, Salomo Neyonga Valombolas’s lifeless body was found in a pool of blood with a gunshot wound to the head and a gun next to him inside the toilet.
“It is reported that the deceased’s cousin who lives with him was woken up by the sound of a gunshot, and noticed that the deceased was not in his room and his firearm which he placed under the pillow was not there. Live rounds, a magazine and empty cartridges were found at the scene,” said police spokesperson, Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi.
Shikwambi said no suicide note was found, and that no foul play is suspected.
However, the police have registered negligent handling of a firearm against the cousin.
Shikwambi said the cousin handled the firearm recklessly and negligently by placing it under the bed and sleeping whereby another person was able to retrieve it to shoot himself.
The suspect is not yet arrested however, the firearm with live rounds and a magazine were confiscated. The Police’s investigation into the matter continues.
In a separate incident on Sunday in Okahandja, it is alleged that Randjiph Azariah Vries (28) died instantly after he was stabbed with a knife on the shoulder.
It is reported that the suspect, a 23-year-old man was seen chasing Vries from a southern direction into a house in Naboth Helao Nafidi Street.
“He was seen stabbing the deceased who then fell to the ground and died instantly. It was further reported that after the incident the suspect fled the scene. He was however arrested later and the murder weapon was recovered,” said Shikwambi.
The police have also reported that Sebedeus Davis (34) died instantly after he was stabbed with a knife in the left upper chest by his girlfriend (40) at Okahandja on Saturday.
It is alleged that Davis and his girlfriend argued over food, upon their arrival at home from a bar.
It was also reported that before Davis was stabbed, he used a wooden plank to hit the suspect whilst demanding food.
“It is alleged that after the suspect started preparing food for the boyfriend, she took a knife and stabbed him once. The victim fell outside the house near the entrance of the shack and died instantly,” Shikwambi said.
