The third edition of the Windhoek Marathon was held at Vegkop Stadium at Windhoek High School. Over 40,000 runners took part and took on four race categories.

The full 42.2 km marathon started at 06h00, followed by the 21 km half marathon at 06h30, the 10 km race at 07h00, and the 5 km fun run at 07h15.

Now in its third year, the marathon is a partnership between the City of Windhoek and Vivo Energy Namibia, aimed at promoting fitness while supporting community development.

Proceeds from the marathon go to the Windhoek Residents Mayoral Trust Fund. The fund supports projects that assist vulnerable residents.

This year’s marathon raised N$296,358. The money will go toward building a sanitation hub at Mix Settlement, outside Windhoek.

In past years, the event helped fund the purchase of books for community libraries in informal settlements owned by the City of Windhoek.
