Standard Bank Namibia’s Buy-a-Brick initiative has raised more than N$27 million since it started in 2015.
The funds have helped build over 740 homes for low-income families across the country.
Through its community-driven model, the Shack Dwellers Federation of Namibia has facilitated the construction of more than 7 000 brick houses, improving living conditions for over 30 000 Namibians.
Standard Bank strengthened its support for the Okalongo community through the 2026 Buy-a-Brick Community Outreach.
Working with the Shack Dwellers Federation, regional leaders and corporate partners such as Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr Namibia, the bank continues to expand access to affordable housing in the area.
Emeritha Iita, Standard Bank’s Outapi branch manager, congratulated residents on Okalongo’s recent proclamation as a Village Council. She said the development could unlock new opportunities for the community.
“Buy-a-Brick represents the power of partnership. When communities, the government and the private sector come together, we create real change. The homes built here in Okalongo are a testament to what collaboration can achieve,” Iita said.
In the most recent cycle, Standard Bank contributed N$3.5 million raised in 2024.
The funding supported the construction of 76 homes in the Erongo and Omaheke regions. Employees also raised nearly N$1 million through internal initiatives.
The governor of the Omusati region, Immanuel Shikongo, said housing is a basic human right. He said secure homes provide children with a safe place to study and grow. He added that when leaders take part in brick-making and construction, it builds trust and shows commitment to ensuring that “no one is left behind” in Namibia’s development.
Speaking on behalf of Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr, Inonge Mainga said Namibia faces a housing backlog of about 300 000 units. She noted that nearly 29% of urban households live in informal settlements. She urged government leaders to speed up land allocation, reduce delays and make housing a priority.
“Growth does not happen in boardrooms; it happens here, on the ground, where communities show resilience, unity, and possibility,” Iita said. “Namibia is our home; we drive her growth.”
