Cashless payments take flight as Proflight embraces digital economy

Proflight Zambia has rolled out cashless payments across its operations, a move it says supports faster and safer transactions.

The airline, which operates flights to Windhoek, introduced the system in November 2025 as part of a shift towards digital payments.

Director of flight operations captain Josias Walubita said the change benefits both the airline and its customers.

“Going cashless strengthens the airline’s operations, enhances service excellence, and maintains a secure operating environment. At the same time, our customers enjoy greater convenience when paying for flights and services, with Proflight Zambia accepting card payments as well as mobile money platforms, bank deposits, and other approved digital options.”

The airline said the move aligns with Zambia’s shift towards a cashless economy and reflects changes in how customers pay for services.

Walubita said the rollout forms part of a wider plan.

“The move to cashless payments complements a wider strategy centred on innovation, service excellence, and governance. It sits alongside ongoing network expansion, industry recognition, and adherence to globally recognised aviation standards.”

Proflight operates regional routes that include flights between Lusaka and Johannesburg, Lusaka and Cape Town (via Livingstone), Livingstone and Cape Town, Lusaka and Windhoek (via Livingstone), Livingstone and Windhoek, Lusaka and Maun (via Livingstone) and Livingstone and Maun.

The airline operates six Bombardier CRJ-200 jets, one CRJ-100 freighter and five BAE Jetstream 41 aircraft.
