COMPANIES FINED:

The Namibia Competition Commission (NaCC) has fined several Chinese companies in the cement industry N$5 million for merging without notification to the relevant authorities. According to the NaCC, the companies merged without its approval. The decision to mete out the fine comes after the High Court ruled in favour of NaCC on Monday. The companies are Fan Qingmei, Wang Zhonkge, Hong Xiang Holdings and Whale Rock Cement which owns Cheetah Cement.Report: Martin Endjala.

The ANC has expelled former president Jacob Zuma.

Zuma was hauled before the party’s disciplinary committee after he publicly endorsed the uMkhonto Wesizwe Party (MKP) ahead of the 29 May elections.Zuma faced two charges: one for collaborating with another political organisation (MKP) and the second for joining another political party not aligned with the ANC.According to a leaked page from what is believed from the ANC's disciplinary hearing, the charged member was found guilty of contravening the ANC Constitution. Exportation ban on critical raw materials endorsed

The government has implemented the prohibition of the exportation of unprocessed crushed lithium ore. This follows a cabinet decision issued last week that endorsed the moratorium on the export of certain unprocessed critical minerals, such as cobalt, graphite, manganese and rare earth elements. Last year, late President Hage Geingob announced that Namibia would no longer export unprocessed critical raw minerals. Drug busts in Narraville and Kuisebmund

Two separate police operations in Walvis Bay on 25 July, led to the confiscation of illicit drugs with a combined value of nearly N$200 000.In Narraville, a 26-year-old woman was arrested at about 12:15 at a living unit in the Pelican View Complex.According to Erongo police spokesperson, Chief Inspector Ileni Shapumba, a search warrant was obtained based on information that drugs were being kept at a flat.The search resulted in the discovery of 3 089 grams of skunk cannabis, valued at N$154 450.In a separate operation earlier that day in Kuisebmund, a 27-year-old man was arrested at a house after…

The acting director of education in the Hardap region, Asumptha Kaoseb has granted all schools and hostels in the region to end classes at 10h00., This is to allow employees and learners enough time to go attend the memorial service of the late education minister Katrina Hanse Himarwa. Swakop Uranium’s executive vice president, Irvinne Simataa has confirmed that the Beifang Mining Services employee, who was involved in a serious incident where a mining dump truck fell into one of the pits at the Husab Mine yesterday, is doing well and is in good spirits. Simaata made the announcement in a statement released on Wednesday evening. He said the injured employee is currently in the care of a medical team and under observation at a private hospital in Swakopmund. MINE ACCIDENT:

A mining truck owned by Beifang Mining Services fell down a wall of one of the pits on the premises of the Husab Mine on Wednesday during lunchtime. Witnesses said operations at the mine have been temporarily suspended as a result. The truck plunged into the waste dump, and the current condition of the truck operator remains unknown. Hanse-Himarwa to receive official funeral

President Nangolo Mbumba has conferred an official funeral on the late Katrina Magdalena Hanse-Himarwa.The decision was announced on Monday.Mbumba said the date and place of the burial will be determined in consultation with her family.Hanse-Himarwa, born on 22 January 1967, died on 14 July 2024 at the age of 57.She served as the minister of education, arts and culture. She was also the first female governor of Hardap Region, holding the position from 2004 to 2015.Mbumba described Hanse-Himarwa as a dedicated teacher and educationalist."Her achievements are highly commendable," he said in a statement.
