Opuwo Youth Choir competes in Mauritius

Staff Writer  The Opuwo Youth Choir is representing Namibia at the African Asia Pacific Choir Games and Grand Prix of Nations.  The choir games began in Mauritius on 27 September and will conclude this weekend.  The directorate of arts under the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sport, Arts and Culture (MEIYSAC) supported the choir’s participation as part of its mission to uplift Namibian artists, particularly the youth, by creating opportunities to showcase their talent on international platforms. Ministry reviews failures after 38% of Etosha burnt

Allexer Namundjembo The Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism said it is assessing shortfalls in the implementation of a fire management strategy for protected areas following devastating wildfires in Etosha National Park.  Environment and tourism minister Indileni Daniel said in a media statement on Wednesday that corrective measures will be considered once the assessment is complete. Investigation links Rundu hostel food poisoning to water contamination

Allexer Namundjembo Food poisoning that affected 33 learners at Maria Mwengere Secondary School in Rundu was linked to contaminated water in the school hostel.  The minister of education, Sanet Steenkamp, told parliament on Tuesday.  In August, learners at the school fell ill after eating leftover macaroni and sausages served for dinner.  Soon after, they reported stomach pains, vomiting, headaches, and weakness.  Two learners were admitted to intensive care, while others were hospitalised for treatment and observation. Renthia Kaimbi The chief of the Dâure Daman Traditional Authority, Zacharias Seibeb, has threatened to evict tourism operator Ultimate Safaris and remove endangered black rhinos from communal land if the company continues opposing mining in the Kunene Region.
