The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China will donate 174 books to the National Library of Namibia to promote cultural and educational exchange between the two countries.

The official handover ceremony will take place at the Ministry of Education Resource Centre in Windhoek.

The Chinese ambassador to Namibia, Zhao Weiping, will present the books to Erastus Haitengela, the executive director of the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Arts, and Culture.

According to the ministry, the donation aims to strengthen cultural ties, promote knowledge sharing, and build mutual understanding between China and Namibia.

The donated books cover topics such as Chinese governance, philosophy, development, and culture. Titles include The Governance of China (Volumes I–IV), Eradicating Poverty, The Road to Ecological Civilisation Construction in China, and China’s Whole-Process People’s Democracy.

Other books focus on Chinese traditions and lifestyle, such as Kung Fu: Martial Arts and the Ideal of Home Country, Hot Pot: A Symbol of Chinese Cuisine, The Forbidden City, and Giant Panda: The Century-old Legend of Living Fossil Animals.

The donation also includes Namibian books like TIMELESS: My Career in the Public Service, Footprints of Hifikepunye Pohamba, and Whispers of Freedom. These books reflect Namibia’s political and historical journey and aim to support cultural exchange.

The education ministry said the books will serve students, researchers, educators, and the public.

“They not only enrich the diversity of the library’s holdings but also provide a unique window into China’s socio-economic development, traditions, and contemporary society.”

The directorate of the Namibia Library and Archives Service will facilitate the donation and reaffirmed its commitment to building international cooperation in education and culture.
