Cops slapped with murder charge

Three police officers were arrested this week on a charge of murder, following the death of 59-year-old Negumbo Embashu, a former Police Officer who was reportedly shot by the cops-turned-suspects,Moses Titus (38), Abisayi Julius (67) and Sam Iikela (39).

Oshana Acting Regional Commander Deputy Commissioner Ottilie Kashuupulwa in an interview with the Windhoek Observer confirmed that the suspects appeared in court on charges of murder and their case has been postponed to 17 May 2023.

Kashuupula stated that the three police officers were responding to a call where the deceased was said to be causing a disturbance.

Embashu is said to be a former police officer who was discharged from his work due to medical unfitness.

He was declared dead after he was shot in his thigh. The incident happened on 10 February 2022 at the Ehafo lyaKandenge village.

According to the police crime report the deceased was at his cuca shop at the time, which is a short distance away from his house and it is alleged that after he saw the Police, he took a stick and the police allegedly ordered him to surrender it but he refused. The police fired warning shots and it is alleged that one of the bullets struck him and was declared dead upon arrival at Onaanda Clinic.
