A 27-year- old Oshakati man, who last Sunday allegedly raped a woman after pretending to be musician David Shikalep, also known as Exit, was denied bail when he made his first appearance in the Oshakati Magistrate’s Court today.

Silver Natangwe is accused of luring a 19-year-old woman to a house, pretending to take her to Exit. Police say upon arriving, the suspect raped the woman, who he had been chatting with on Facebook pretending to be Exit. His profile on Facebook gives an impression that it belongs to Exit. The suspect also had Exit’s picture as his display picture. Natangwe was denied bail due to the seriousness of the charge and public interest. His rights to a formal bail application were however explained.

Magistrate Kaleinasho Pohamba presided over the matter. Natangwe is expected to return to court in December. Further police investigations are ongoing. He is also expected to have legal representation.

It is reported that the suspect met the victim at a local bar in Oshakati and pretended to be Exit’s brother. Reports are that he informed her that the musician was at the house he lured her to.

The victim has since informed the police that she does not want the suspect released on bail. Meanwhile, Exit says he would be opening a case against the suspect. “I am coming with my case. I will not let you get away with this,” Exit reacts on social media.
