IPC condemns debacle at Namcor, calls for investigation

The Vice President of the Independent Patriots for Change (IPC), Trevino Forbes has expressed deep concern about the debacle that unfolded at the Namibian Petroleum Corporation on Monday.

“The developments surrounding Namcor have raised serious questions about the management of Namibia’s natural resources. Namcor is a critical entity in Namibia’s oil and gas sector, and its proper function is essential for the country’s economic development and the well-being of its citizens,” Forbes said in a statement.

He said that recent reports about the investigation into Namcor’s Managing Director, Immanuel Mulunga’s involvement in the N$100 million payment for oil blocks in Angola, as well as the arrest of a Namcor board member on charges related to the possession of illicit drugs, have raised concerns about the transparency and accountability of the company’s leadership.

“We believe that these developments undermine the public’s trust in Namcor and call into question the governance of the company. As a party committed to promoting sustainable and equitable management of Namibia’s natural resources, the IPC believes that it is crucial to ensure that Namcor is operating in the best interests of the people of Namibia,” Forbes said.

He has since called on the government to launch an immediate investigation into the allegations surrounding Namcor and its leadership.

“The IPC believes that the investigation will lead to accountability for any wrongdoing and the implementation of reforms to improve transparency and governance at Namcor. The findings of the investigation must be made public to restore the public’s trust in enterprise and ensure that Namibia’s natural resources are being used to benefit its people and promote sustainable economic development,” Forbes wrote in his statement.

He urged all Namibians to remain vigilant and demand accountability from those responsible for managing the country’s natural resources.

“Our natural resources are the shared heritage of all Namibians. It is essential that they are managed transparently and equitably for the benefit of all our people,” he said.

Forbes stated that the IPC will remain committed to promoting transparency and accountability in all sectors of the economy and that the party will continue to monitor developments at Namcor closely.
