Khomas sees cheaper beef as Kavango East prices rise

Beef consumer prices showed mixed movements in December 2025, with several key cuts becoming cheaper in Khomas, while Kavango East recorded increases across many products, according to data from the Livestock and Livestock Products Board of Namibia.

In Khomas, weekly prices fell for a number of cuts during the week ended 12 December. Loin prices dropped by 11.54% to N$199.99 per kilogram. 

Fillet declined by 5.36% to N$233.90 per kilogram. Rump eased by 1.43% to N$205.79 per kilogram, while topside fell by 7.41% to N$144.92 per kilogram.

Lower-priced cuts also became cheaper. Hump declined by 2.17% to N$97.82 per kilogram. 

Chuck fell by 2.22% to N$114.77 per kilogram. Fat dropped by 8.0% to N$39.99 per kilogram, and bones fell by 5.43% to N$32.17 per kilogram.

Some prices increased in Khomas. Brisket rose by 2.50% to N$99.82 per kilogram. 

Wing rib increased by 2.98% to N$137.67 per kilogram. Fillet also recorded a week-on-week increase of 4.93%. Prices for neck, bolo, prime rib and thick flank did not change.

Month-to-date figures show fillet as the most expensive cut in Khomas in December at an average of N$316.30 per kilogram. Loin followed at N$213.03 per kilogram, with rump at N$204.34 per kilogram.

In Kavango East, beef prices moved higher during the same period. Hump increased by 4.55% to N$99.99 per kilogram. Neck surged by 23.95% to N$110.64 per kilogram. 

Chuck rose by 4.69% to N$114.12 per kilogram. Flat rib jumped by 18.75% to N$123.90 per kilogram, while fillet climbed by 18.64% to N$322.17 per kilogram.

Trimmed beef recorded the largest increase in Kavango East, rising by 31.38% to N$141.08 per kilogram. 

Fat increased by 6.32% to N$77.96 per kilogram. Kidneys rose by 7.39% to N$56.84 per kilogram.

Some cuts became cheaper in the region. Thin flank fell by 4.24%, while silverside dropped by 16.53% to N$129.56 per kilogram.

On a month-to-date basis, fillet remained the highest-priced cut in Kavango East at N$296.86 per kilogram. 

Rump followed at N$197.21 per kilogram, with loin at N$186.66 per kilogram.

In Oshana, prime rib prices remained unchanged at N$104.34 in both November and December. Rump increased from N$197.82 to N$199.99.

In the Zambezi Region, prime rib prices fell from N$107.71 to N$103.17. Rump prices dropped from N$168.17 to N$148.86.
