The 34-year-old Fillipus Shindume Nanyemba died on Saturday after the side of a deep hole he was busy digging in the area of the Otyolo Village collapsed on top of him.

According to the incident report provided by the Public Relations Division of the Namibian Police, the tragic incident occurred sometime on Saturday after Nanyemba left his house at about 06:00 to dig for lightning stones in the bush.

When he did not return home, his girlfriend and one of his cousins became worried and went looking for him. According to the incident report, they followed Nanyemba’s tracks into the bushes and eventually found the site where he was supposed to dig for the lightning stones.

The search party found two buckets in which Nanyemeba carried his food and water and some of his clothes hanging on a nearby tree.

“They could observe that sand had collapsed into the hole he was digging and expecting the worst, they went to inform some of their neighbours who in turn informed the Namibian Police,” the report reads. With the assistance of the people, members of the Namibian Police removed the loose sand from the well and eventually discovered the body of the deceased person at the bottom of the hole.

The body was taken to Omuthiya Police Mortuary where a post-mortem examination will be carried out to determine the actual cause of death.

According to the report, investigators have ruled out foul play for the moment.
