The Mobile Telecommunications Company (MTC) has pledged N$4.5 million over the next five years to sponsor the Content Creator Awards. Of that amount, N$1.5 million is allocated for this year’s event.
The announcement was made last week by MTC’s spokesperson, Erasmus Nekundi, who said the sponsorship is part of the company’s support for Namibia’s digital space.
The awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on 6 December at the National Theatre of Namibia (NTN) and will recognise individuals who have contributed to digital content creation in the country.
This year’s event will include 20 award categories with increased prize values for winners. In addition to the awards.
MTC will also host a workshop for aspiring content creators, featuring industry experts who will offer practical strategies for success in the digital industry.
Nekundi expressed MTC’s commitment to supporting the creative and digital industries.
“As a digital enabler, it is our honour to support those who make social media engaging, ensuring that data is used not only for entertainment but also for educational and impactful purposes,” he said.
He said that MTC continues to invest in the creative industry over the years.
“We continue to intentionally participate because the creative and entertainment industry is crucial and will always have significant socio-economic benefits,” said Nekundi.
He emphasised the creative industry’s potential to provide income-generating opportunities, stating, “If taken seriously in all forms, this industry can aid livelihoods. It is an industry where one can make a decent income and live off it. However, there is so much to be yearned for in its current state, and it will take a collective effort to build and bring it to a standard where we all want it to be.”
MTC’s sponsorship also reflects its belief in creativity and innovation.
“Content creators are creatives and innovators. They are storytellers who package narratives and use data to bring cultural tales to us and connect communities in a unique modern way. Our sponsorship for these awards highlights our commitment to bringing digital inclusion, supporting innovation, and empowering local talent,” Nekundi said.
Event organiser KP Illest shared his excitement about MTC’s contribution.
“What started as just a dream is now becoming a reality. With MTC’s contribution, we can create something bigger and better than we ever imagined,” he said.
The Content Creator Awards aim to celebrate Namibia’s creative talent while fostering growth in the digital industry.
MTC has long been a player in the country’s creative and cultural landscape, supporting initiatives like the Namibian Annual Music Awards (NAMAs) and MTC Windhoek Fashion Week.
