The MultiChoice Talent Factory (MTF) has opened applications for its 2026 intake, offering aspiring African filmmakers a fully funded opportunity to enter the film and television industry.

The pan-African training institution invites graduates from across the continent who want to become directors, filmmakers, scriptwriters, producers, and visual storytellers. Through its academies, MTF provides professional training focused on building the skills needed to tell African stories for local and international audiences.

Following MultiChoice’s integration into the CANAL+ Group, the company has reaffirmed its focus on African content by investing in young creative talent.

The programme aims to equip the next generation of filmmakers with practical production, storytelling, and business skills to strengthen Africa’s presence in the global entertainment space.

The 2026 intake offers a fully accredited nine-month programme that combines theory with hands-on experience. Training follows a hybrid model, with online learning supported by in-person sessions at MTF academies in Kenya, Nigeria, and Zambia. These centres serve participants from 14 African countries and provide access to mentorship, industry exposure, and professional networks.

Since launching in 2018, MTF has trained 296 filmmakers and supported the production of more than 42 films.

Students develop and produce their own projects during the programme.

These films are broadcast on DStv and GOtv channels, including Maisha Magic, Zambezi Magic, and Africa Magic, and stream on Showmax.

MTF graduates have gone on to build careers across the film and television industry. Many work on major African productions within the MultiChoice ecosystem, while others have started independent ventures.

More than 50 production companies have been established by MTF alumni to date.

The focus on local storytelling has also led to international recognition. Alumni have earned nominations and awards at platforms such as the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, the Kalasha Awards, the Uganda Film Festival, and the Women in Film Awards.

Graduates also collaborate with international creatives at events including the European Film Market and Durban FilmMart.

The programme aims to support both creative growth and economic contribution within African communities. Applications for the 2026 intake close on 27 February 2026.
