President Hage Geingob has reiterated that the legacy of the former refugee commissioner and Swapo veteran fighter Nkrumah Mushelenga is worth emulating in building the country and making it a better place for all.

Geingob said this in his condolences message on Sunday.

“I have learned with sadness of the passing on of a freedom fighter and senior civil servant, comrade
Nkrumah Mushelenga. On behalf of the government and the Namibian people, I extend our sincere
heartfelt condolences to the children and the entire bereaved Mushelenga family,’’ Geingob expressed.

Mushelenga died on the 27th July 2022.

Mushelenga leaves an illustrious legacy in which he dedicated his steadfast youthful in fighting for the attainment of the country’s freedom, as well as for refugees wellbeing.

The President pointed out that him being a former refugee, was inspired to ensure that refugee
communities are looked after, which saw him occupying the refugee commissioners position under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security.

His involvement has greatly strengthened government policies in dealing with refugees, due to his understanding of their plight and special needs.

Geingob said that although the country is deeply saddened and devastated by the late Mushelenga’s
Passing, his illustrious legacy of dedication and steadfastness that he leaves behind, should serve as consolation to all.
