NA Secretary attends meeting in Rwanda

The Secretary of the National Assembly (NA), Lydia Kandetu is attending the Society of Clerks-at-The-Table (SoCATT) strategic plan validation meeting in the Rwandese capital, Kigali, until Sunday.

NA) Spokesperson, David Nahogandja, has confirmed this today. The meeting’s primary aim is to engage and facilitate the development and finalisation of the 2022-2026 SoCATT Africa Region Strategic Plan. A technical team comprising of focal point persons from different sub-regions such as Namibia, Zambia, Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda are attending.

SoCATT is an organ of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Africa Region providing a platform for the sharing of parliamentary practices and experiences of the various legislative chambers within the CPA-Africa Region.

Nahogandja, states that at an annual general meeting held from 11-12 November, 2021, Kandetu was elected onto the steering committee of SoCATT as Vice-Chairperson, deputising Ambassador Jeanine Kambanda of Rwanda.

The steering committee has overall responsibility for control and management of the society, which is to provide strategic direction and supervision and support SoCATT secretariat in facilitate exchange programmes, meetings and seminars for parliamentary staff. Since 2015, the work of SoCATT has been guided by the strategic plan to ensure a well-structured and systematic approach towards the attainment of its goal and objectives, affirms Nahogandja.

Hennng Melber, a political analyst, says, “it is a welcome contribution to good governance and that such interactions might also create a better personal understanding of each other, which then enhances respect across political lines and these will strengthen the parliamentary work even more further.”

“More is expected to be outlined once the meeting is done, then only can we withdraw from the information that will be made available and make better judgment and assessment as a country”, he concludes.
