The Namibian Competition Commission (NaCC) has recorded losses of N$65 million over the past three years.

It lost N$20.9 million in 2023, N$18.5 million in 2024, and N$25.6 million in 2025.

Auditor general Junias Kandjeke revealed the latest loss in his latest audit report on the NaCC for the financial year ending 31 March 2025.

Despite the repeated shortfalls, the commission maintains that it remains financially stable.

“The commissioners believe that the commission has adequate financial resources through the grant allocation to continue in operation for the foreseeable future,” the report stated.

Despite these losses, Kandjeke said NaCC can still operate because the government gives it financial support.

The latest audit shows NaCC’s revenue grew to N$14.8 million, compared to N$12.4 million in 2024.

However, expenses increased sharply and reached N$43.4 million during the year. This rise in spending left the commission with an operating loss of N$28.5 million.

Kandjeke said investment income of N$2.9 million slightly cushioned the deficit, but the overall loss still widened from last year’s N$18.5 million.

The report highlights that NaCC ended the financial year with total assets of N$47.9 million, up from N$41.5 million in 2024.

Most of the NaCC’s growth came from government grants. These grants increased significantly and reached N$34.3 million for the year under review. On the other hand, the commission also had liabilities to manage. Total liabilities stood at N$20.6 million. The largest portion of this amount was mainly owed to the Ministry of Finance.

Cash flow also reflected pressure. The Commission used N$30 million in operations but received a N$34.3 million government grant, resulting in positive operating cash of N$4.3 million.

After investing activities, total cash dropped slightly to N$330 087, down from N$515 549 the previous year.

Kandjeke said NaCC had enough government support to meet obligations and that no material risks threatened its operations.

NaCC is tasked with promoting competition and preventing unfair business practices in Namibia.
