The Namdia Foundation has invested N$5.9 million to improve learning conditions in the Kavango West region through the construction of three new classroom blocks and the installation of two water tanks at rural schools.

The official handover took place on Friday at Hamweyi Primary School in the Ncuncuni Circuit and was attended by regional leaders, education officials and community members.

Speaking on behalf of former deputy prime minister and minister of industries, mines and energy, Natangue Ithete, National Council chairperson Lucas Sinimbo Muha said the initiative showed how Namibia’s natural resources could deliver real benefits to communities.

“This handover is a tangible demonstration of natural resource beneficiation in action, our diamonds transforming into direct community benefit,” said Muha.

“Education and human capital development remain key national priorities under Vision 2030 and the sixth National Development Plan. Partnerships like these show that when corporate purpose aligns with public goals, we can bridge development gaps and ensure that no Namibian child is left behind.”

Namdia board chairperson Justus Hausiku said the foundation’s work went beyond infrastructure, reflecting its vision to transform diamond wealth into long-term social progress.

“This is not merely an infrastructure project; it is a statement of belief that education and access to basic services remain the most powerful tools to unlock Namibia’s future,” said Hausiku.

“Through the Namdia Foundation, we are investing in communities to ensure that every diamond traded by Namdia becomes a promise fulfilled.”

The new classrooms were built at Hamweyi, Sitenda and Ekondjo Primary Schools, while Kasivi and Ncaute Primary Schools each received water tanks to improve access to clean water.

Receiving the projects, Regional Education Forum chairperson and Ncamagoro Constituency councillor Thomas Rengi praised the foundation’s support for education in rural areas.

“We are deeply grateful to the Namdia Foundation for its continued commitment to improving learning conditions across Namibia,” said Rengi.

“The new classroom blocks and water tanks we receive today are far more than infrastructure projects. They are investments in the dreams of our children and the future of our communities. They bring comfort where there was once overcrowding and hope where there were once challenges.”

After the handover, the delegation toured the beneficiary schools for ribbon-cutting ceremonies and site inspections, where teachers and learners expressed their appreciation for the improved facilities.
