President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has extended her condolences to Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama and the people of Ghana following a tragic military helicopter crash in the southern Ashanti Region on Wednesday.
The crash claimed the lives of eight individuals, including defence minister Edward Omane Boamah and environment, science and technology minister Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, along with three Ghana armed forces crew members and other senior officials.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Nandi-Ndaitwah expressed Namibia’s sympathy to the victims’ families and the nation of Ghana.
“On behalf of the government and people of the Republic of Namibia, and in my personal capacity, I offer our heartfelt condolences to Your Excellency, the bereaved families, and to all the people of Ghana during this time of national mourning,” she said.
Nandi-Ndaitwah described the loss of the two ministers and other officials as a tragedy, not only for Ghana but for the African continent. She added that their untimely deaths leave a significant void in leadership and public service.
She also noted the long-standing relationship between Namibia and Ghana, built on shared liberation struggles and a commitment to Pan-African unity.
“Namibia stands in solidarity with Ghana in this time of grief,” she said.
