Nedbank Namibia has increased its investment in Lüderitz as the southern coastal town gains importance due to planned growth in energy, logistics and export industries.
The bank recently unveiled its upgraded Lüderitz branch under its nationwide project imagine modernisation programme.
The upgrade aims to improve banking infrastructure and client services in areas expected to see more commercial activity.
Lüderitz is being positioned as a key industrial hub following developments linked to offshore oil and gas, green hydrogen and logistics centred around the Port of Lüderitz.
Plans to expand the port at Angra Point, supported by international partners including the European Union and the Port of Rotterdam, are expected to support future exports related to green minerals, hydrogen and petroleum services.
These developments are expected to attract both foreign and local investment into the southern corridor. This is likely to increase demand for financial services such as trade finance, foreign exchange, project funding and support for local businesses.
Nedbank Namibia said strengthening its presence in Lüderitz is part of its plan to serve investors and local businesses expected to benefit from these developments.
Nedbank Namibia communications and PR manager Selma Kaulinge said Lüderitz is entering a new phase of economic growth driven by long-term investment and international cooperation.
She said the bank aims to ensure that clients, investors and businesses in the south have access to financial services that support development.
The Lüderitz branch upgrade forms part of Nedbank Namibia’s broader investment in infrastructure. This includes its headquarters development in Windhoek.
Analysts say as Lüderitz shifts from a fishing and tourism-based economy to an industrial centre, banks will play a key role in linking global capital with local businesses.
This includes improving access to funding, supporting transactions and helping small businesses take part in larger value chains.
Nedbank said its investment reflects confidence that Lüderitz will become an important growth area as projects in the south move forward.
