The National Union of Namibian Workers (NUNW) as the umbrella organisation for all workers’ unions in the country has thrown all their weight behind Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah as the workers’ presidential candidate for Swapo.

The National Union of Namibian Workers (NUNW) announced its endorsement during the celebration of Workers’ Day in Rundu on Wednesday.

Job Muniaro, the NUNW’s secretary general said that he made the announcement because the leadership of all unions mandated him to do so.

“We feel strongly that Nandi-Ndaitwah will be the workers’ president as well as their leader,” he said.

Muniario added that Nandi-Ndaitwah is a visionary leader who will carry the interests of all workers in her heart.

Nandi-Ndaitwah as the presidential candidate in the upcoming Presidential and National Assembly elections at the end of November this year enjoys broad support from various unions and organizations within Namibia, including the NUNW which is affiliated to Swapo.

Nandi-Ndaitwah, currently Vice President of Namibia, has been confirmed as the sole presidential candidate for the Swapo Party for the upcoming elections party’s central committee.

This decision followed the death of President Hage Geingob earlier this year, prompting internal discussions within the party about the need to maintain unity and focus on the forthcoming national election campaigns.

The endorsement of Nandi-Ndaitwah by the Swapo politburo as well as the NUNW aims to prevent internal division and focuses on gearing up for a successful election campaign.
