OBSERVER COASTAL | Namport champions wellness for Walvis Bay communities

The Namibia Ports Authority (Namport) has championed the well-being of Walvis Bay’s youngest and oldest residents through two recent community initiatives focused on wellness and support.

The first event, the Namport Community Wellness Initiative, was launched on 27 September at Dunes Mall.

The launch drew a large turnout, including many senior citizens eager to participate.

The mall’s atrium was transformed into a wellness hub offering free health checks, screenings, and fitness sessions led by TBT, featuring Zumba, Tae-Bo, and aerobics. Attendees also received advice on nutrition and mental well-being.

One of the most popular activities was the “Adopt-a-Seedling and Starter Garden Kits” station, held in partnership with Good Food Namibia.

The station encouraged participants to grow their food and embrace sustainable living.

Namport’s manager for marketing and stakeholder engagement, Cliff Shikuambi, officially launched the event and spoke about the company’s goal of promoting holistic wellness.

Guest speaker Jacob Ntintin Orange delivered an address titled “Championing Community Wellness for Sustainable Resilience”, inspiring participants to adopt healthier lifestyles.

The event was supported by several partners, including WBCG, LSS Namibia, TBT, Good Food Namibia, Old Mutual Namibia, Namib Mills, Dunes Mall, and Dune 7 Dental Practice.

Following the wellness launch, Namport extended its outreach by donating blankets and N$20 000 to the Walvis Bay Senior Citizens Association in partnership with the Walvis Bay Salt Company.

The donation supported the association’s Sports Day held at Kuisebmund Secondary School.

Shikuambi told the Windhoek Observer that the dual focus on wellness demonstrates Namport’s continued commitment to uplifting local communities.

“Through these targeted efforts, Namport is not just making donations; it is actively building a healthier, stronger, and more resilient community for everyone,” he said.
