The Swakopmund Town Council has approved N$127 261 to cover accommodation and meals for a special contingent of the Namibian Police during the 2025/2026 festive season.
The decision was taken at an ordinary council meeting on Monday.
The funds will support 20 officers from the Namibian Police Special Reserve Force, who will be deployed in the town from 14 December 2025 to 6 January 2026.
Of the approved amount, N$101 752 is allocated for accommodation and N$25 508 for meals.
A condition of the sponsorship is that the unit must operate only within Swakopmund’s jurisdiction throughout the deployment period.
The council stressed it will not take responsibility for any costs beyond the approved budget.
The deployment aims to strengthen public safety during the busy holiday season.
The council also requested the Special Reserve Force to assist with security during the Swakopmund Fair, taking place from 16 to 18 December 2025.
To ensure smooth operations, the council called for proper coordination between the Special Reserve Force and the Tourism Protection Unit. It has also asked the Ministry of Safety and Security to guarantee the full-time presence of the unit in Swakopmund for the entire three-week period.
Nampol has been requested to submit a full report after the festive season detailing all activities and outcomes during the deployment.
The funds will come from the council’s existing vote for Namibian Police accommodation, which has about N$488 000 available.
