Health ministry deploys 36 new ambulances nationwide

Niël Terblanché The Ministry of Health and Social Services has commissioned 36 new ambulances to improve emergency medical care across Namibia. The vehicles were officially put into service on Monday in Windhoek. Health Minister Dr Esperance Luvindao said the new fleet is part of efforts to strengthen the country’s public healthcare system. “These vehicles symbolise our resolute commitment to saving lives and strengthening our healthcare system,” she said at the commissioning ceremony. Justicia Shipena  Economists at Simonis Storm Securities expect the Bank of Namibia (BoN) to keep the repo rate unchanged at 6.75% at its next Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting.  The MPC will meet on 16 and 17 June 2025. Erasmus Shalihaxwe Team Namibia won the Angolan Independence Celebration Swimming Competition held over the weekend.  Namibian swimmers topped the medal chart with 22 medals. Angola followed with 19 medals, while South Africa placed third with nine.  Clube Náutico da Ilha de Luanda, a selected Angolan team, earned five medals and took fourth place.  Selecao de Portugal came fifth with four medals, and Selecao de Mozambique finished last with two. Allexer Namundjebo The City of Windhoek is under fire for poor road repairs, with residents and activists saying the work is already falling apart just months after rains damaged streets across the capital.
