Police Officer allegedly kills bystander

A 42-year-old member of the Namibian Police Force, Jonas Shilomboleni, appeared in the magistrate court today for murder and was granted bail of N$2000 by Magistrate Johannes Shuuveni.

On Saturday at round 21h47 at AKB Bar Single Quarters Katutura in Windhoek, Shilomboleni allegedly fired bullets striking a bystander to his death. According to NamPol Spokesperson, Kauna Shikwambi, was driving in the vicinity of the Single Quarters on his free time when he encountered a car stationary on the road blocking movements of other road users. He then disembarked from his vehicle to ask the driver to give a path for him to proceed but was instead attacked. Police say as of yet they are not sure who exactly attacked him but investigations are on-going.

After the attack, Shilomboleni drew his service pistols and shot in the direction of the people. The discharged bullet hit 27-year-old Noa Shitombe (bystander) in the forehead. He was immediately transported to the hospital and was pronounced dead by the doctor upon his arrival.
The case has been postponed to the 22nd of February 2022, for Shilomboleni to obtain a legal representative.

Meanwhile in Rehoboth a case of attempted murder and murder was reported.

It is alleged that on Saturday between 14h00 and 14h30 in Block-G,
a 47-years-old, Frederick van Wyk was stabbed to death by his younger brother, whilst trying to stop his two brothers from fighting. It is further alleged that van Wyk came out from the yard to stop his brothers who started fighting where they were drinking together.

The 41-years-old brother pulled a knife from his pocket and stabbed the deceased once in his left chest and also stabbed the other brother on the left upper side of his back. The deceased ran into the yard, fell under the tree and succumbed to the stabbed wound. The suspect was arrested and police investigation continues.
