President appoints six new Judges

President Dr Hage Geingob has appointed three acting judges to the Supreme Court and three to the High Court of Namibia.

The Judicial Service Commission in an announcement on Wednesday said that the new appointments were made on the recommendation of the Judicial Service Commission.

Sakeus Akweenda, the Secretary of the Judicial Service Commission, said in the statement that Justice Rita Makarua, Justice Johanna Sophia Prinsloo, and Justice Schimming-Chase were appointed as acting Judges of the Supreme Court effective from 1 April 2023 to 31 March 2024.

Justice Makarau is currently serving as a Judge in the Constitutional Court of Zimbabwe. She previously served as a Judge of the Supreme Court of Zimbabwe and was the Judge-President of the High Court of Zimbabwe.

Justice Prinsloo is currently serving as a Judge of the Namibian High Court in a substantive capacity, and she was appointed on 1 July 2017.

Justice Schimming-Chase also currently serves as a Judge of the High Court in a substantive capacity and was appointed on 1 April 2021.

Justice Collins Parker was re-appointed as an acting Judge of the High Court effective from 1 April 2023 to 31 December 2023.

Justice Moses H. Chinhengo has been appointed as an acting Judge of the High Court as from 18 September 2023 to 31 December 2023.

Adv. Ramon Maasdorp has been appointed as an acting Judge of the High Court from 16 April 2023 to 31 July 2023.

Justice Chinhengo is a retired Judge of the High Court of Zimbabwe and formerly of the High Court of Botswana. He is currently serving as an Acting Justice of the Court of Appeal of the Kingdom of Lesotho.

Chinhengo previously served as an acting Judge of the Supreme Court of Namibia from 1 February 2021 to 31 December 2021.

Ad. Maasdorp is currently practising as a member of the Society of Advocates, having been admitted to the Bar in 2009.
