Rape dominates weekend crime bulletin …as boyfriends prey on lovers

A seven year-old child and women between the ages 29 and 34 years were raped during the past weekend.

Nampol Spokesperson Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi said that the girl was raped on Friday by her 15 year-old cousin at Onengali village in Ohangwena region.

The two, according to Shikwambi reside in the same house. The suspect has not been arrested as he is a minor. Police investigations continue.

On the same day , a 34 year-old Angolan woman was raped by a 45 year-old Namibian man, who is her ex-boyfriend at Onambango village in Oshana region. Police say the suspect entered the victim’s room and pushed the victim on the bed before raping her.

“The victim was applying lotion after taking a bath during that time. The victim screamed but no help as there as there was a strong wind and heavy rain. The suspect has been arrested,” read the police report.

On Saturday, a 35 year-old Namibian woman was raped at Gibeon location, Hardap region. It’s alleged that the suspect raped the victim while she was asleep.

The victim was allegedly escorted and left home to sleep by the boyfriend who went back to a local bar. The suspect is well known and is yet to be arrested.

In another incident on Wednesday last week and in the morning hours at about six o’clock, a 29 years old Namibian woman was allegedly raped at Ontunda village at Onankali area in Oshana region.

It’s alleged that the suspect who is allegedly her 32 year-old-boyfriend assaulted and forced himself on the victim. had. He is set to appear at tOndangwa Magistrate court today.

Meanwhile, two murder cases were reported over the weekend. Last Friday, an 18 year-old boy was attacked and killed by unknown suspects around 22h47. The incident occurred in the vicinity of at Goreagab dam in Windhoek.

“It is alleged that unknown suspects attacked the deceased with a knife and fatally stabbed him. His next of kin not yet informed. The remains were taken to Windhoek police mortuary for an autopsy report. Police Investigations continue in the matter,” Shikwambi said.

In another incident, a 52 year-old Angolan man, João Batista Meliheketyi was stabbed on Friday T Kanovlei village, in Tsumkwe, with a traditional knife. Allegations are that the suspect stabbed the deceased with a homemade traditional Knife once, on the chest, causing him to die instantly.

“The reason is not known as to what triggered the action. A 22 year-old Namibian man has since been arrested in connection of the murder. The deceased’s next of kin have been informed and the suspect is expected to appear in court on Monday,” Shikwambi added.
