Rehoboth has been featured on the Kwela television programme as part of the “Dorp van die Jaar” (Town of the Year) segment, aired on DStv Channel 144 (kykNET & kie).

The segment is part of a community effort to position the town as a cultural and tourism destination by highlighting its infrastructure, leadership, and local initiatives.

The Rehoboth Town Council, working with the Junior Town Council, facilitated the visit by the Kwela production team. The crew toured key locations, including the Edenberry Strawberry Farm and the newly installed “I Love Rehoboth” sign near the town council offices.

They also joined community-led environmental activities like a tree planting drive.

Rehoboth Town Council public relations officer Desire Pieters said the visit was part of a broader plan to promote the town’s economic potential and civic unity.

“The RTC has consistently played a pivotal role in promoting Rehoboth as a thriving tourism hub, showcasing its unique blend of diversity and unity,” Pieters said.

She said the council supported the filming through its public relations office by mobilising residents to vote, coordinating clean-up efforts, and leading town beautification activities.

The council also provided logistical support for protocol and coordination.

Pieters said the Kwela visit was a direct result of local appreciation for the council’s ongoing work.

“Participating in the Kwela Town of the Year competition instilled a sense of pride and attachment among residents, highlighting the strong bond between the town and its people,” she said.

She said the initiative brought the community together.

“Notably, our community have come together, putting aside differences to work towards a common goal. To the outside world, Rehoboth demonstrates its strength in diversity, united in its pursuit of development and progress.”

The Junior Council and local development committees participated in the event, including the tree planting drive aimed at raising environmental awareness.

The segment featuring Rehoboth will air soon, followed by a public voting phase to determine the winner.

The council said the competition could boost visibility and support tourism and investment in the town.

Rehoboth Town Council urged residents and supporters to vote once the segment airs and continue engaging in development efforts aimed at improving the town’s image and infrastructure.
