Remgro has entered into an agreement with Investment Holding Limited, a subsidiary of MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company, to restructure their joint interests in Mediclinic Holdings.
The agreement, announced on 30 March 2026, will see Remgro take full ownership of the Southern African business, known as the MCSA Group, which includes operations in Namibia.
Investment Holding Limited will take full control of the Swiss-based Hirslanden Group.
The transaction is valued at about US$950 million for each side. It involves Remgro exchanging its 50% stake in the Swiss business for Investment Holding Limited’s 50% stake in the Southern African operations.
The MCSA Group operates more than 50 hospitals and nearly 9 000 beds across Southern Africa. In Namibia, it runs Mediclinic Windhoek, Mediclinic Swakopmund and Mediclinic Otjiwarongo.
These facilities will fall under Remgro’s full ownership if the deal is completed.
The companies said the restructuring will align ownership with their main markets and improve decision-making.
They said operations will continue without disruption and that patient care and employees remain a priority.
Both parties will retain joint ownership of operations in the Middle East and continue to share an interest in Spire Healthcare in the United Kingdom.
The transaction is subject to regulatory approvals, including from competition authorities in Namibia and South Africa, and must meet other conditions before completion.
