The Capricorn Group has reaffirmed its support for school-level netball in Namibia by announcing the return of the annual Capricorn Schools Netball League.

The league will kick off on Friday, 16 May 2025, with matches starting in Windhoek. It will conclude with national play-offs by 22 August 2025.

The Capricorn Group has sponsored the league since 2017, taking over from its subsidiary, Bank Windhoek.

Marlize Horn, Capricorn Group Executive for Brand and Corporate Affairs, said the group is proud of its role in netball development.

“The league provides a platform for netball players to compete for their schools in the national league and play competitive netball of a high standard, enhancing their skills,” she said.

“Furthermore, sports, including netball, play an important role in building character and promoting youth teamwork, commitment, and hard work. At Capricorn Group, we remain committed to supporting sports development, especially women’s sports, to create sustainable opportunities in the regions and communities where we operate,” Horn added.

This year, 85 teams from regions including Khomas, Karas, Hardap, Otjozondjupa, Kunene, Otjikoto, Omaheke, and Erongo will take part. Among them, 17 are public schools and 13 are private schools.

Teams will compete in age categories from Under 12 to Under 19.

“We are thrilled to announce the start of the 2025 Capricorn Schools Netball League and anticipate an exhilarating season of competitive matches. We extend our gratitude to Capricorn Group for supporting us in making this league a success,” said Liezel Garbers, Chairperson of the Capricorn Schools Netball League.
