Stakeholder feedback to guide WBCG’s next five years

Feedback from high-level stakeholder engagements at Walvis Bay will help finalise the Walvis Bay Corridor Group’s (WBCG) five-year strategic plan for 2026–2031.

The three-day engagement mission, led by its acting chief executive officer Edward Shivute, took place from 19 to 21 January 2026.

The consultations focused on gathering direct input from transport and logistics partners operating along Namibia’s strategic trade corridors.

The engagement aimed to identify operational bottlenecks that affect efficiency and to align the group’s future strategy with the needs of industry players and regulators.

Shivute said the new strategy will build on Namibia’s transport and logistics infrastructure and respond to rising cargo volumes moving through the corridors, which recently surpassed 2.5 million metric tonnes.

“Our mission remains clear: to maintain and enhance the competitiveness of our corridors. These consultations are vital for aligning our strategic operations with the needs of both the private sector and relevant regulatory agencies,” Shivute said.

He said the discussions focused on industry challenges and practical solutions to improve the smooth flow of regional trade.

“By addressing industry ‘pain points’ and fostering deep-rooted collaboration, we ensure that the Walvis Bay Corridors continue to offer the most efficient and reliable transit solutions in the region,” Shivute said.

During the visit, Shivute and the WBCG team met with partners, including Namport, freight forwarders and logistics companies.

He added that the engagements also reinforce Namibia’s broader goal of positioning itself as the preferred trade gateway for the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region.

“We remain committed to its public-private partnership model, which supports cooperation between government, industry and regional partners.”

Shivute said stakeholder consultations will continue to ensure industry input remains aligned with national priorities.
