African Stars Football Club, reigning Namibia Premier League champions, will host a four-team pre-season tournament at Independence Stadium in Windhoek from 24 to 26 August 2025.
The tournament will prepare the club for its participation in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League.
On Thursday, African Stars announced that Young African Football Club from Tanzania had withdrawn from the tournament and will be replaced by AS Maniema Union from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
“African Stars FC would like to inform our fans and stakeholders that Young Africans FC from Tanzania has withdrawn from the upcoming Pre-Season Tournament in Windhoek. We are excited to welcome AS Maniema Union from the Democratic Republic of Congo as their replacement. Join us in giving them a warm Namibian welcome and supporting great football,” said the club.
The other participating teams are Petro Luanda from Angola and Lioli Football Club from Lesotho.
African Stars have won the premier league eight times, the Namibia Football Association Cup six times, the Standard Bank Cup once, and the MTC Maris Cup once.
At the end of the 2024/25 season, the club recognised outstanding players for their contributions on and off the field. Awards included top goal scorer, footballer of the season, players’ player of the season, most disciplined player, supporter’s player of the season, and the chairman’s award.
“The African Stars Awards are more than just a celebration of talent; they reflect the values of teamwork, commitment, and excellence that define the club,” the club said.
